Keeping Our Community Healthy

At Child Development and Learning Center, your child’s well-being is our top priority. To ensure a safe and healthy environment for all children, we follow state health department guidelines and ask for your cooperation in maintaining these standards.

Health Requirements for Enrollment

Before your child can attend, we must have:
Up-to-date immunization records on file (required by state law)
HIB vaccination (for children ages 3, 4, and 5)

Important: Children arriving on their first day without completed immunization records will not be able to stay and must return home.

Within 30 days of enrollment, we also require:
A completed health care summary form signed by your child’s physician

When to Keep Your Child Home

To protect all children and staff, please keep your child home if they experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Unexplained tiredness or lack of energy
  • Vomiting two or more times in one day
  • Fever (100.4°F or higher)
  • Eye or ear discharge
  • Lice or ringworm (must be treated before returning)
  • Bacterial infections (e.g., strep throat) unless on antibiotics for at least 24 hours
  • Three or more loose stools in one day
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chickenpox (until all sores are crusted over)
  • Any illness requiring more care than we can safely provide

These guidelines, set by the Department of Human Services, help us prevent the spread of illness.

If Your Child Becomes Ill at School

If symptoms appear during the day:

  • We will contact you immediately to pick up your child.
  • A quiet rest area is available until pickup.

Reporting Illness & Contagious Diseases

  • Notify us if your child will be absent.
  • Report contagious illnesses (e.g., flu, strep, COVID-19) within 24 hours.
  • We will inform families if a contagious illness is confirmed in your child’s class.

Medical Emergency Authorization

By signing our permission form during enrollment, you:

  • Allow your child to participate in program activities.
  • Authorize staff to take necessary steps in medical emergencies.
